A determina- <br />tion on what effects the Littlefield Springs Project will have on <br />the wound fin will be available when sufficient design and operation <br />information has been provided to the recovery team. <br /> <br />4. Comment: The desalinization project at Las Vegas Wash will <br />remove 138,000 tons of salt from the Wash. This will decrease the <br />salt level in Las Vegas Bay, which is used as the potable water <br />uptake of.the Alfred Merrit Smith Water Treatment Plant, which sup- <br />plies potable water to Las Vegas. Again this particular project <br />will lower the salt p/m value in Las Vegas Bay, but to what extent <br />is not stated in this report. This project will also amount to a' <br />1,900 acre-feet per year loss to the Wash. <br /> <br />Reply: The particular influence of the Las Vegas Wash Project or <br />any other upstream salinity control project on a specific local area <br />in Lake Mead is impossible to determine due to the numerous variables <br />that would influence such a calculation. Temperatures, wind and water <br />currents, depths, mixing, etc.; all would have a significant influence <br />and would be continually varying. The general influence at Hoover Dam, <br />where all flows are concentrated, can be ascertained. This influence <br />is incorporated in chapter III of the revised text for the Las Vegas <br />Wash Unit. <br /> <br />S. Comment: All 16 salinity control projects are qpstream of Lake <br />Mead. Certainly these projects will have an affect on the potable <br />water uptake of the Alfred Merrit Smith Water Treatment Plan. The <br />amount of reduction is unknown. All 16 projects will reduce the salt <br />concentration 154 p/m at Imperial Dam, the last diversion on the Colo- <br />rado before the river trickles into Mexico. <br /> <br />Reply: Two of the referenced projects are located downstream of Lake <br />Mead. For the specific influence these projects have on Lake Mead <br />refer to the previous comment above. <br /> <br />6. Comment: It is my understanding that currently the State of <br />Nevada is entitled to withdraw 300.000 acre-feet/year from Lake Mead. <br />Once Nevada reaches this magic number, then it gets credit for the <br />water that it returns to the Colorado Basin; example. if the state <br />returns 20,000 acre-feet it may withdraw 320.000 acre-feet. If this <br />is true. Nevada would lose credit for the evaporation losses encoun- <br />tered at the Las Vegas Wash Unit; this could prove to be most impor- <br />tant in the growth of the Las Vegas Valley. <br /> <br />169 <br />
