To even out the fluctuation, treated water storage is provided
throughout the system, Variations In monthly and seasonal demands are regu-
lated by raw water storage.

.'

The magnitude of water use In the metropolitan area is Indicated by a news
item appearing in the Denver Post an June 20, 1968 reporting the establish-
ment of a new record for use of water by Denver area residents, The use on
June 19. was 379,900,000 gallons which was greater than the previous record
established on July 16, 1966 when 371,250,000 gallons were used. The newS
Item stated that water use In Denver, because of lawns parched by the sun
and wind, was unusually high for that time of year, and that the use for
each four days of the week of June 17th exceeded 350,000,000 gallons per
day.

'.

Figure I reflects the population growth for the City and County of Denver
and for Arapahoe County, which includes part of Aurora and all of Englewood
and Littleton, The data are derived from past census and from projections
made by the Inter-County Regional Planning Commission. Based on the pre-'
dicted population and an average per capita water demand of 200 gallons per
day, the total raw water demand in the next three decades for District No.8
would be approximately as shown below:

Year

Combined Population
Denver and
Arapahoe County

Estimated Average Annual
Water Requirement
(acre-feet)

1970
1975
1980
'1985
1990
1995
2000

675,000
744,000
795,000
855,000
915,000
957,000
1,000,000

151,000
166,000
178,000
191,000
204,000
214,000
224,000

The above figures are indicative only of the magnitude of municipal water
demand which will occur in the future and which must be planned for by the
cities concerned.

,
,

"
