I :;' , <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />STATUS OF SOUTH PLATTE BASIN STUDIES <br /> <br />At the present tIme, the State of Colorado Is actIvely <br />consIderIng three major projects wIthIn the South Platte <br />BasIn of the state of Colorado as unIts of the MIssourI <br />RIver BasIn Project. These projects are the Narrows UnIt, <br />the Cache la Poudre UnIt and the Two Forks UnIt. A brIef <br />summary of these project~ Is as follows: <br /> <br />1. Narrows Unit <br /> <br /> <br />The Narrows UnIt comprIses a potentIal dam and reser- <br /> <br /> <br />voIr on the South Platte RIver about seven mIles upstream <br /> <br /> <br />from the cIty of Fort Morgan. ThIs unIt was authorIzed by <br /> <br /> <br />the Flood Control Act of 1946. Funds for InItIatIon of <br /> <br /> <br />constructIon on the project were made avaIlable In 1947 and <br /> <br /> <br />for several years thereafter, untIl 1951. In 1951 a devel- <br /> <br /> <br />opIng controversy InItIated by a number of local resIdents <br /> <br /> <br />brought the pre-constructIon actIvIties of the Bureau of <br /> <br /> <br />ReclamatIon to a halt. ObjectIons to the reservoIr con- <br /> <br /> <br />structIon emanated, prIncIpally, from the Weldona area <br /> <br /> <br />whIch would have been Inundated by the reservoIr and from <br /> <br /> <br />IrrIgators above the reservoIr who would receIve no dIrect <br /> <br /> <br />benefIt from the stored waters. LackIng any posItive <br />
