l. IntI'oduction. The attached coopeI'ative pI'ogram indicates the name.
location. sampling type. and analysis type of quality of wateI'
.- stations roquested foI' opeI'ation in r. Y. 1973-l978. Each request
is set up to fulfill one OI' more of the following Bureau of
Reclamation investigation pI'ogram objectives:

a. Dete1"1!li.nation of the suitability of the wateI' foI' iI'I'igation
pUl'poses.

b. DeteI'mination of the suitability of the wateI' foI' municipal
uses.

c. DeteI'mination of the influence of iITigation d~veJ.opments on
quality of wateI'.

:.; ..Quality of wateI' as used heI'ein is cons1:I'ued to mean the chemical
composition and concentI'ation of the wateI'. Symbols are used in the
contI'ol schedule to show the type of sampling and analysis reqUired
at each station. The meaning of these sYll'Do1s will be given in
subsequent paI'agraphs.

2. Priority. The Regional PdoI'i ties 1 thI'Ough 20 are for the guidance
of the USGS and apply to r. Y. 1973 only. PI'ioI'i ty No. 1 r>epI'esents
the highest pl:'iority. The Regional priorities were established in
comPliance with the priorities for planning :repOI'ts set,up by the
Regional Office. Two bI'oad categoI'ies were established 'to guide
priori ty number assignments; statilons for which no data weI'e
curI'ent1y available. and stations foI' which additional data is
needed to meet I'equirements of planning I'eports.
