.

.

4

D. A construction firm will be hired to drill, complete, and test the disposal

well. Test results will be evaluated and used to determine if the

disposal formation has adequate capacity for injecting 900 gpm within

reasonable operating pressures. The remaining disposal system design will

also be based on these results, such as number of wells, well spacing,

pumping plant size, and treatment requirements.

E. The permanent disposal well system and remaining project features will be

designed concurrently with completion and approval of planning report

supplements and NEPA requirements.

NEPA Procedures

Based on the Final Environmental Statement filed in 1979 a Categorical

Exclusion will be filed to cover the initial injection well drilling and

testing. This is still a testing phase to determine the final recommended

brine disposal method. After the final disposal method is determined, planning

reports will be supplemented and an Environmental Assessment (EA) prepared.

Comments on the EA will determine whether an EIS supplement is needed or a

Finding of No Significant Impact will be adequate. Based on initial response

from the public and concerned agencies environmental problems appear to be

minimal.

Brine Collection Well Field Development

OV540

Brine inflow control is continuously being evaluated and steps to improve it

are ongoing. Twenty three production wells have been constructed and tested to

date. Nineteen were originally constructed and 5 new wells were completed in

., . c,:-:~ ,F~",;-,::",:":::~"';'i.;{:-\'itr:'-J!.,~.v_,.."T,.,.,~,~~::,,~":~~!;.;;:<_~l;:i:,,:.~J.-,}'~,>.' _,;,;;;~'?;,l;iJ;<",'>""!.f:~';;'3\~.lr'"",,c l:~".;?-"; r--,:'?7~'!~;.:,;"._.",._-~.. _',~'_:-:':t";:~;!r!JJ;<_" <",,,_...tM'I."",:'-~'~ ,:,T';,-:-':~~"fi."Tff.r:\:'..'''5";;..~,;~',);'7:~;~;---;T'''';''':<:P_--;:''':?,,.err""
