The consumptive <br />use requirement for irri~ation of these lands is estimated to be 4 acre- <br />feet per acre (12 000 m Iha) which would result in an annual mainstream <br />depletion of 430,352 acre-feet (531 x 106m3). The estimated consumptive <br />use in 1978 from irrigation of 75,405 acres (30 500 ha) is 289,500 acre- <br />feet (372 x 106m3). This leaves an additional depletion of about 12B,732 <br />acre-feet (159 x 106m3) per year for future development of irrigated <br />lands. <br /> <br />The Bureau of Indian Affairs has reported a general 2,000 acres (800 <br />ha) per year land development rate on the reservation in the past. The <br />land development rate of 2,000 acres (800 ha) per year was assumed for <br />the future even though the Bureau of Indian Affairs feels the land deve- <br />lopment rate may slow down in the near future. Therefore, by 19BO, there <br />will be an additional 4,000 acres (1629 ha) and 16,000 acre-feet (20 x <br />106m3) of use, by 1990, 20,000 acres (80 000 ha) and BO,OOO acre-feet <br />(99 x 106m3) of use and by 2000, B,183 acres (3300 ha) and 32,732 acre- <br />feet (40 x 106m3) of additional use. <br /> <br />Lower Colorado River Channelization Project, Arizona-California. <br />Between Davis Dam and Parker Dam channelization work in the Mohave Valley <br />Diversion was begun in 1949 and completed in 1960 to salvage 65,000 acre- <br />feet (BO x 106m3) of water per year. <br /> <br />Be low Parker Dam 24,200 scre-feer (30 x 106m3) of water salvage by <br />channelizarion was planned for the two sections of the Parker Division. <br />This was started in 1966 and section one of the division was completed in <br />1967. It has been estimated that half of the salvage work associated with <br />the division has been completed. Work began in 1962 and was completed in <br />1966 to salvage 10,000 acre-feet (12 x 106m3) in the Palo Verde Division. <br />In 1964 work to salvage 36,000 acre-feet (44 x 106m3) began in the Cibola <br />Division and was complete in 1970. <br /> <br />No future salvage of water has been anticipated. Salvage of water by <br />replacing phreatophytes with vegetation that uses less water and is envi- <br />ronmentally more beneficial is being considered. <br /> <br />lB. Augmentation <br /> <br />Public Law 90-537 (dated September 30, 1968) states that augmenta- <br />tion of the Colorado River will be a national obligation in order to <br />supply the Mexican Treaty requirements. Although temporary periods of <br />subnormal water supply can be satisfied from storage releases, permanent <br />deficiencies caused by full utilization of the waters allocated to the <br />States would require augmentation. <br /> <br />60 <br />
