A further compounding of

tedium, time, and error arises when the analyst is then asked

to compute -average number of days per year in priority,R

Raverage number of days out of priority,R and the like.

Thus~ the first potential for use of computerized analysis

of call d~ta suggested itself, ~, a computerized analysis of

j',

the perio~ during which a given water right is in and out of

priority.

A Compute~ised CaZZ Reco~d FiZe?

Why not oreate a computer data file in the same format as

the Division Engineer's reoord? There are other ways to do this

task, such as oreation of a 365-day file for each year for eaoh

district, or oreation of a 365-day long file with ten entries f~r

each day, one for eaoh district. But why not simply adopt the

format of the Division Engineer's call reoords, ~, why not

adopt the format of Figure A-3?

Figure A-4 contains a printout of the oomputerized oall

record file for Water Division I for the calendar year 1952.

Looking at the third entry in the file, the R0509R refers to the
date that the call went out, ~, May 9 (l952). The Rl885ll20~

refers tol the priority date of the calling water right, ~,

November '20, 1885. Finally, the ROOOOOOllllR refers to those

districts affected by the oall.
