I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

;ry :oo! ~, ~;; ~~ :';

water rigl!t as against all other upstream water rights in othe'r;

water districts. For example, refer to Figure A-l, a map of the1

South Platte River Basin within Colorado and the sixteen former

water districts into which the South Platte River Basin was and

is divided for various purposes. Refer also to Figure 2, the

Division Engineer's record of Division I calls for the year 1952.

Note the first call for 1952, a call which was issued on "5-9." '

The priority date of the calling water right, 11-20-85, is given'

under the column, "Shut Off priorities Post-Dating:." This par-

ticular r$cord also identifies the calling water right as the

Burlington Ditch. This water right, which was entitled to diver\

water under its decreed priority, did not have a sufficient

amount of water physically available at its point of diversion on

May 9, 1952, to satisfy either its present need for water or the'

full amount of water to which it was entitled under its

appropriation. The "x" in Column 7, 8, 9, and 23 under "Cards

Sent to Districts" indicates that the call for water was placed

against Water users in Water Districts, Nos. 7, 8, 9, and 23.

Referring again to Figure A-2, one notes that on 5-16 the

call against Water Districts 7, 8, 9, and 23 decreased in its

severity to 5-31-07 (the Riverside water right in Water District

1). For whatever reasons may have applied, the 11-20-1885 water:

right whieh had placed a call some seven days before, on 5-9, ha~

apparently received a satisfactory supply of water. The Water

Commissioner took the ll-20-l885 call off and placed a less

severe call of 5-3l-07 on Water Districts 7, 8, 9, and 23.

The fact that the Water Commissioner or Division Engineer

placed a call of 11-20-1885 against water users in Water Distri~ts

A-2

",.&

c
