.

.

.

O~1613

IRRIGATION REPORT
TRINIDAD PROJECT, COLORAOO
(Corps of Engineers)

Supplement to Appendix A
"Water Supply and Utilization"

Appendix A of the Irrigation Report was completed in April 1961.
The study presented in Appendix A assumed equal sh~ring of the project
water supply. This concept was unacceptable to the board of the
Purgatoire River Water Conservancy District. The board took the
position that operations should be modified to recognize and give
some advantage to those individuals presently holding the most senior
water rights and the Model Land and Irrigation Company which was pro-
viding the storage right. The district board, therefore, requested
that the operations reflected in the study be modified to:

(1) Permit the water rights owners within the district
to exercise their individual priorities when the
stored water had been depleted.

(2) Permit the Model Land and Irrigation Company to
reserve for their exclusive use 6,000 acre-feet
of the 20,000 acre-foot irrigation space.

(3) Provide a yield from this 6,000 acre-foot reser-
'vation approximating their historic yield by
allocating one-third of the nonirrigation season
storable flow and all irrigation season reservoir
inflows in excess of 300 c.f.s. storable under
Model right to the Model Account.

(4) Permit the Model Land and Irrigation Company to
share proportionately in the Project Account
after the Model Account has been reduced to 1,200
acre-feet. The remaining 1,200 acre-feet is used
when the Project Account is empty and the District
is back on water right priorities.

The request resulted in the development of detailed operating
principles and criteria and revisions of the water supply and water
utilization studies presented in Appendix A, April 1961.
