Dolores - the segment of the. main stem from Rico <br /> <br />upstream to its source. including its headwaters; the West Dolores <br /> <br />from its source, including its headwaters, downstream to its <br /> <br />confluence with the main stem; and the segment beginning a"short <br /> <br />distance downstream of the proposed McPhee dam site to the Colorado- <br /> <br />utah border. excluding the segment from One mile above Highway 90 <br /> <br />to the confluence of the San Miguel River. <br /> <br />On February 5, 1975, the Executive Director of the <br /> <br />Colorado Department of Natural Resources made an official request <br /> <br />to the Secretaries of Interior and Agriculture that the wild and <br /> <br />scen~c rivers studies of these 12 rivers be done on joint federal- <br /> <br />state bases. TIlese requests were granted by both Secretaries. <br /> <br />Therefore, the State of Colorado will be a full partner in the <br /> <br />performance of the wild and scenic rivers studies and in the <br /> <br />preparations of recommendations to Congress. The Water Conserva- <br /> <br />tion Board was named as principal coordinating agency for state <br /> <br />input. <br /> <br />These wild and scenic rivers studies, with the exception <br /> <br />of the Dolores River study, must be completed by October, 1979. <br /> <br />Congress made special provision for the Dolores River study by <br /> <br />specifying that the .study must be completed by January 3, 1976. <br /> <br />This apparently was to ensure that the wild and scenic rivers study <br /> <br />would not interfere with the progress of the Dolores Project or the <br /> <br />Paradox Valley unit of the Colorado River water Quality Improvement <br /> <br />-3- <br />
