Munua, Misllouri River

Division Engineer.

This was the greatest IIOnthJ.y loss of stored

1ll1oter from "the reservoirs since the system vas canpleted in 1964.

This evacuation was part of the continuing effort to lower

reservoir levels so they will be ready to store next year's floods,

should they occur.

Inflows to Fort Peck Reservoir vere substantially above normal

in September but the amount of flow into the six-dam system vas normal.

Dry conditions from Fort Peck in Montana to the mouth of the river

below St. Louis, Mo., caused below-normal tributa.ry flows and permitted

record high releases from Gavins Point Dam.

Preliminary estimates indicate the main stem reservoirs prevented

en million dollars worth of damage by holding back the flood inflows

-- MORE --

:t:~(-:t

;~~;~~;

-J._,:.-;'
:~~;:~N;~
--.~.
