Research, Monitoring, and Data Management <br /> <br />Recovery elements 3, 4, and 5 require propagation and hatchery involvement. <br /> <br />Various numbers and sizes of the four species will be required to complete <br /> <br />research and to restore or augment depleted populations. This plan provides <br /> <br />several strategies for the systematic development of the initial 3 years of a <br /> <br />propagation program. It addresses several major components: <br /> <br />1. Updating and refining the need for hatchery reared fish in terms of <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />species, sizes, numbers, with associated timeframes. <br /> <br />2. EstabliShing parameters and guidelines for maintaining genetic diversity <br /> <br />and integrity--both in the wild, in the management of hatchery broodstock <br /> <br />and production, and in refugia. <br /> <br />3. Developing basin-wide criteria for the use and management of hatchery <br /> <br />produced fish. <br /> <br />4. Developing updated biological and engineering evaluations of existing and <br /> <br />~~._ new siteS/facilities, including the potential use of new technologies (not <br />.,y.~ <br />'L ~ /1/ <br />7 /- previOUSly considered) to meet both short and long-term needs. <br />
