There were 18 perwns <br />taking the tour. <br />Walt Werner, of the Forest <br />Service, and Tony Martinez. of <br />the Colorado Division of Natural <br />Resources. explained methods <br />used, some of the tenative <br />decisions reached were C'll"ptain- <br />ed. and examples ofs.treams were <br />visited. <br />The tour started al the Bridge <br />Campground and visited the <br />deadman curve on the Piedra <br />River and also traversed the <br />P1umtaw road to see samples of <br />streams being studied. The men <br />pointed out that Williams Creet. <br />from the Jake down 10 the canon <br />did not meet the crileria for wild <br />and scenic river inclusion because <br />of poor water quality. <br />They said Ihal Ihis was due 10 <br />the heavy algae growth in the lake <br />and that this could possibly be <br />corrected in the next few years. <br />Werner said that Ie-native find. <br />ings were thai the main stream of <br />the Piedra was eligible for <br />indusion under Ihe provisions of <br />theac!. <br />Field forms. used by the survey <br />team. were distributed to the <br />group at differenl poinlS.
