<br />Forest Service are trying to preserve and protect this species which <br /> <br />was classifed as a rare species by the Secretary of the Interior and <br /> <br />protected under the Endangered Species Preservation Act of October 15, <br /> <br />1966. The construction and maintenance of a concrete barrier on this <br /> <br />stream's channel would prevent rainbow trout in the reser~oir from <br /> <br />invading the Rito de la Olla and preclude possible hybridization <br />of the existing cutthroat. Also, the barrier would prevent nongame <br /> <br />fish from gaining access to the trout stream above the barrier. <br /> <br />Hydroelectric power development, in connection with the project, <br />would not be feasible and is not planned. <br /> <br />IV. Evaluation of Environmental Impact <br /> <br />A. Probable impact of the proposed action on the environment <br /> <br />Development of the multipurpose project would improve the socio- <br /> <br />economic environment by creating new wealth. It would provide <br />. <br />assurance of an adequate supply of irrigation water, thereby <br /> <br />strengthening the agricultural economy which would improve the <br />quality of life and enhance the human environment. <br /> <br />Indian Camp Reservoir, with its access roads and relocated State <br /> <br />highway to the area, will open up areas to the public in forested <br /> <br />lands essentially unused except by fishermen. The reservoir, with <br /> <br />a permanent pool surrounded by tall trees, will improve the <br /> <br />esthetics of the area and provide fishing, camping, picnicking, <br /> <br /> <br />and other public amenities.
