<br />uva,Hi <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />In response to our request last month, I have included in the Board folder copies of the <br />various member agencies letters that have been sent to Congress in support of the salinity control <br />program. <br /> <br />I can report that Mr. Jack Barnett will be traveling to Washington D.C. next week to discuss <br />the need for appropriations for the Salinity Control Program. Several meetings are scheduled with <br />administration and deparbnent administrators in the U.S. Department of Agriculture to stress the <br />need of the designation of the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Program as a National Priority <br />Area under the EQIP laws and rules. <br /> <br />Mr. Bamett will be accompanied by representatives from the Mississippi River Delta County, <br />known as the Delta Council, an organization that has formally requested a national designation for <br />a large area in the state of Mississippi located in the Mississippi Delta region. lbis group has the <br />support of Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural <br />Development, and Related Agencies. <br /> <br />Clean Water Act Section 303 (d) List <br /> <br />Included in the Board folder is a copy of a notice, dated April 6, 1998, addressed to Interested <br />Panies from Mr. Phil Gruenberg, Executive Officer of the California Regional Water Quality <br />Control Board, Colorado River Region (Regional Board), regarding the "Notice of Public Review <br />of the Updated 1998303 (d) List ofImpaired Water Bodies within the Colorado River Basin Region <br />of California". The updated list includes additional detail pertaining to target dates for proposed <br />Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) development of listed water bodies, which was not included <br />in the draft November list. The updated list is being distributed for a thirty-day public review of the <br />details of TMDL target dates and comments should be forward to the Regional Board within thirty <br />days of its April 6th letter. Comments received will be considered at the next scheduled Regional <br />Board meeting, on May 14.1998. <br /> <br />I have included in the Board folder a copy of the Imperial Irrigation District's testimony <br />which was presented at the January 8, 1998. Regional Board's hearing on the 303( d) List of Impaired <br />Water Bodies, which was held in Indian Wells, California. <br /> <br /> <br />Gerald R.
