Details
of the Sponsors' water budget model are described in the AB Lateral Hydropower Project
Hydrology Report (HDR, 1995).

3.2.2

Impact of Alternatives

Under the No Action alternative, the Uncompahgre Valley Water Users Association
(UVWUA) would continue to divert water from the Gunnison and Uncompahgre Rivers
to meet irrigation needs. Aspinall Unit operations are expected to result in a more natural
hydrograph in the Gunnison River as efforts continue to recover downstream endangered
fishes. With development, the Sponsors would divert additional water, as it is available,
from the Gunnison River for purposes of generating electricity at the proposed AB Lateral
Hydropower Project.

Table 3-1 shows the average monthly flow through the proposed plant for Alternative E-
1, E-2, and E-3, Included in the amounts shown is the water needed for irrigation and the
additional diversions for hydropower. Also shown in Table 3-1 is the amount of water
that is ne.eded by the UVRP canal systems downstream of the proposed Project. This
water is shown under the No Action alternative in Table 3-1. Under the No Action
alternative, the downstream demands would not be altered; however, the method of
delivering water to these demands would continue to be the South Canal and the
Uncompahgre River.

Month

Jan

Feb

Mar

Apr

May
Jun
Jul

Aug

Sep
Oct

Nov

Dec

Annual
Note:
a.
