<br />",.,-.,.- ;ft <br /> <br />M1S'.9 . <br />Affected EnvIronment & Consequences <br /> <br />3-37 <br /> <br />3.10 <br /> <br />Uncompahgre Valley Wetlands <br /> <br />.- ,\ <br /> <br />3.10.1 Existing Conditions <br /> <br />Wetland surveys were conducted during September 1993 for the lower portion of the <br />Uncompahgre River, including a 600-foot wide corridor approximately 27 miles long. <br />The corridor begins on the north end of Montrose and extends to Delta. A total of 35 <br />wetlands, encompassing 544 acres, were found within 15 reaches identified for the <br />Uncompahgre River and its perennial tributaries (see Figures 3-4 and 3-5). The acreage <br />for each reach is summarized in Table 3-17. <br /> <br />Table 3-17. Included within this reach are Wetland 1 (east bank) and Wetland A (west bank). <br />Both contain characteristics of atypical situations (gravel-mining operations), remnant <br />wetland communities, and undisturbed wetland communities. Wetland 1 contains <br />palustrine/ emergent/persistent (P/E/P) and palustrine/scrub-shrub/broad-Ieafed deciduous <br />(P/SS/BLD) communities. Wetland A is classified as a P/SSiBLD.
