STATEWIDE FLOOD CONTROL PROGRAM <br /> <br />The Statewide Flood Control Program still has a backlog of over $10 <br />million in approved projects. There are over $150 million in <br />projects waiting to be funded. New applications are due November 1 <br />of each year. The Transportation Trust Fund is expected to generate <br />about $20 million per year for this program. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Once the backlog is resolved, program monies will begin addressing <br />projects in the recommended construction program. In accordance <br />with the "Guideline and Procedures," projects lll\lst re-compete each <br />year for available funds. Therefore, newly submitted projects can <br />successfully compete with projects that have been recommended but <br />unfunded in previous years. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />LOUISIANA WATER RESOURCES INFOIUolATION CENTER (LAWRIC) <br /> <br />LAWRIC maintains files on who <br />the data gathering stations as <br />related topics in Louisiana. <br /> <br />collects water data and locations of <br />well as a bibliography on water <br /> <br />The Louisiana Ambient Water Quality Monitorinq Network Cataloq and <br />Atlas are now available. Locations of water quality data gathering <br />stations of State and Federal agencies are indexed and mapped. <br />Contact Sharon Balfour of our office for a copy. It is also <br />computerized for easy searching. <br /> <br />The Louisiana Water Data Referral Directory is also available for <br />$10.00. The directory will be updated. with updates available for <br />$2.00. LAWRIC expansion depends on whether additional staff can be <br />hired. <br /> <br />4. CREATION OF A STATEWIDE GEOGRAPHIC INFOIUolATION CENTER <br /> <br />Sharon Balfour of our office has been appointed by Governor Roemer <br />to be Louisiana's GIS coordinator. She is chairing a Task Force for <br />the development of. a statewide GIS network and/or center. A <br />memorandum of understanding (MOUl has been signed by 14 state <br />entities agreeing to cooperate to that end. A Position Paper <br />justifying the need for a GIS network is being prepared. <br /> <br />2 <br />
