Later, if conditions
change, the project could be reexamined.

.

DESCRIPTION: Feasibility study of the proposed lffingum reservoir to regulate the
flows of the Salt Fork of the Red River in southwestern Oklahoma to furnish a
needed supplemental irrigation water supply to 47,000 acres of irrigable lands
in the existing W. C. Austin Project and to provide flood control and fish and
wildlife benefits, needed recreational opportunities, and assistance under the
Area Redevelopment Act.

14, Oklahoma State Water Plan, OK (Inactive) (See Arkansas River Basin
Above Keystone Dam)

38, Retrop Project, OK (Inactive)

STATUS: The results of the Retrop Project study (Altus Dam modification) were
held in abeyance in 1970 pending completion of the Red River Compact. About the
same time as the compact was signed (May 12, 1978), the Reclamation Safety of
Dams Act of 1978 was signed authorizing the Secretary of the Interior to perform
reasonable modifications to existing structures to preserve their structural
safety. Altus Dam was one of 13 dams mentioned in the act. Since Altus Dam is
being studied under the Safety of Dams Act, the Retrop study was never resumed.

.

DESCRIPTION: Study of plan to modify Altus Dam, reservoir, and dike system to
eliminate the threat of failure because of inadequate spillway capacities and to
extend the economic life of Altus Reservoir from about 46 years to 100 years by
providing additional capacity for accumulating sediment.

.

143
