Flatiron ~eservoir ~~ll provide 400 acre-feet of operating capacity and serve as ?~ afterbay for the Flatiron Power Plant. It ~~ll also regulate flows to the Horsetoath Feeder Sanal and act as a forebay for the pumping DIant which ~~ll deliver a portion of the water' to Carter Lake ~eservoiro Located in Crj1mn~y Hollo.....~ about 8 miles southwest of Loveland, this re~prvoir will rBOUlre the co~struction of an earth and rockfill type dam on Dry Creek-- a tributary of the Big Thompson ~iver. Waters destined for tile Big ThoffiDson ~iver r~d for the Horsetooth ~eservoir ~~ll be re- leased from this reservoir directly into the Horsetooth Feeder Ganal. Waters to be stored in ~arter Lake Reservoir, either for subseouent use in the St, ~Train 'ITallp.y or for eventual use in the Big Thompson ~nd Poudre ~alleys, ~~ll be tr~nsferred to Carter Lake ~eservoir by means of the Flatiron Pumping Plant and the Carter Lake Pressure Tunnel, Big Thomason Power Plant ~nll be located near the mouth of Big Thompson Canyon and will ooerate on waters rel":lBsed from the Horsetooth Feeder r.an~l to the Rig Thomnson River. Foothills Storage and SUDDly System The systerr: nOT: under crnstruction along the foothills border- ing the plains area ',':ill receive water from Flatiron Qeser70ir and the Big Thompson River, transport the ~ater to conven1ently located reservoirs for storage, and deliver supolemental water to existing irrigation facilities. Extending nearly 40 miles in a general north-south direction along the foothills above the plains area, this ~ystem ~ll serve irrigation facilities located in the Little Thompson and St. Vrain Valleys south of Flatiror ~eservoir a~d in the Big fhomnson, Poudre, and North Poudre Valleys north of the reservoir.
