A waste'\ffl.y turnout,
located upstream from the gate structure, leads from the canal to
the Colorado River and provides for drainage of the canal.

Shado~ Mountain and Grand Lakes, connected by an equalizing
channel, are operated as a single body of ~ter to supply a uniform
rate of flo'W through the Alva B. Adams Tunnel.

Shadow Mountain Lake, formed by ShadD.... z.1ountaln Dam, 1s
locatee.. on the North Fork of the Colorado River belo.... its confluence
with the outlet channel from Grand Lake. At operating level, Shadow
Mountain and Grand Lakes form one continuous body of water, with
Shadow Mountain Lake covering an area of 1,337 acres and the two
lakes at the common operating level covering 1,852 acres. During
periods when normal inflow to the lakes 1s inadequate to maintain
a uniform rate of flow through the Adams Tunnel, the lake level is
maintained by pumping fram Granby Reservoir. Controls provide for
automatic regulation of the water surface of Grand Lake within a
I-foot fluctuation limdt--between elevations 8366.0 and 8]67.0.

- ---~-

-

.:~?'~.
c$",~,

Shadow Mountain Lake - Outlet Works Right Foreground.

Shado'.
