During early <br />years of operation, these potential users will not require <br />large quantities of water. The capacity of the system should <br />be adequate to serve these users but their contribution to the <br />repayment of construction costs during the critical early years <br />of operation will be small. <br /> <br />Officials who are charged with the responsibility of <br />assisting with the planning of "Rural Area Development" have <br />visited the Mesa County Area. One official appeared before <br />the Ute Board of Directors at a regular meeting and briefly <br />discussed their predictions for the United States, Colorado <br />and Western Colorado. <br /> <br />According to the information that has been developed for <br />their use, Western Colorado should plan for an increase in <br />population totaling 53 percent, during the period from 1960 to <br />1975. <br /> <br />A oareful oonsideration of the climate, elevation and <br />topography of Western Colorado indioates that areas whioh oan <br />aooomodate suoh an inorease are looated along the main Colorado <br />and Gunnison River valleys. The Grand Valley, at the con- <br />fluenoe of the two rivers, is the largest of these and one of <br /> <br />- 15 - <br /> <br />"~, <br /> <br />......'""'.
