Taxation In support of this project would be levied under the city's Flood Control <br />Fund. Money for maintenance of recreation facilities would come from taxes levied under the <br />Park Department Fund. The Norfolk Sanitary Drainage District would levy a tax to provide <br />maintenance for the structure Itself. Approximately two mi I Is would be needed to amortize <br />the Investment and pay operation and maintenance costs. Some funds are anticipated through <br />the state of Nebraska Smal I Watershed Control Fund. <br /> <br />Provisions for Operation and Maintenance <br /> <br />The City of Norfolk and the Norfolk Sanitary Drainage District wi I I operate and maintain <br />the project facilities. <br /> <br />Local Interest and Support <br /> <br />Application for the project was fl led In August 1962. Since that time, great Interest <br />on the part of the sponsors has been sYldent. <br /> <br />Existlnq Resource Oevelopment In the Area <br /> <br />A local flood protection channel and levee project is being constructed around the north <br />and east sides of Norfolk by the Corps af Engineers to provide protection along the North Fork <br />of the Elkhorn River. <br /> <br />Effect on Water Supplv in Proiect Area <br /> <br />The project Is expected to reduce the sediment load delivered to the Elkhorn River. <br />Ground water, to be pumped Into the reservoir to maintain a recreation pool, Is not expected <br />to be significantly depleted. <br /> <br />~2 <br /> <br />. <br />
