<br />C. Purpose of the Reservoir
<br />
<br />Taylor Draw Reservoir will be a multipurpose reservoir having
<br />any or all of the following uses: irrigation, municipal, industrial,
<br />power generation, flood control, recreation and other beneficial
<br />purposes.
<br />
<br />1. Irrigation
<br />
<br />A 1 though as many as 400 acres of exis ti ng farml and wi 11 be
<br />inundated by the reservoir, there is a potential for an additional
<br />1,269 acres to be irrigated and cultivated as a result of this project
<br />(see Map 1) and for supplemental irrigation on another 550 acres (see
<br />Table 1), All of the lands to be irrigated by waters from this project
<br />would be downstream from the reservoir around the Town of Rangely, At
<br />4 acre-feet per acre on new lands and one acre-foot per acre for supple-
<br />mental water, the total project water required for irrigation would be
<br />about 5,630 AF, The Feasibility Report (1) used a smaller amount of
<br />3,937 AF per year,
<br />
<br />2, Municipal
<br />
<br />Rangely will experience great increases in population with the
<br />development and processing of oil shale, coal, and other new energy
<br />sources combined with the continued production of oil and gas. As the
<br />town grows, the demand for new and/or better sources of water will also
<br />grow, Having 1,871 people in 1977, Rangely's population is projected
<br />to be 2,500 in 1980, 7,800 in 1985, 13,900 in 1990, 20,100 in 1995, and
<br />24,600 when full development of energy resources in the area is reached
<br />around the year 2000. These figures can be translated into water require-
<br />ments as follows: 460 AF in 1980, 1,445 AF in 1985, 2,570 AF in 1990,
<br />3,720 AF in 1995, and 4,550 AF in 2000 based upon an average annual use
<br />
