MWSI Project
Phase II Conjunctive Use Summary Report - DRAFT

August 22, 1995

Centennial Aquifer Storage and Recovery

Centennial completed a Phase I Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Feasibility
Investigation in December of 1991, In this investigation the following topics were discussed:
water supply, water quality, water demands, hydrogeology, recharge and recovery rates, the
proposed testing program, and permitting and legal issues. At that time Centennial decided to
proceed with Phase II of the study in 1992, Phase II work involved the retrofitting of an existing
Arapahoe aquifer well, Well A-6, for injection and recovery, the installation of an Arapahoe
aquifer monitoring well near the injection well, aquifer testing, background, injection and
recovery water quality analyses, and injection and recovery of treated surface water over short
and long-term cycles,

The following table summarizes the three injection, storage and recovery cycles
performed during the Phase II work (CH2M Hill, 1993),

Table 3

Aquifer Storage and Recovery Cycle Duration and V.olumes
Phase II - 1992

Cycle
No.

Mode

Injection
Storage
Recovery

2

Injection
Storage
Recovery

3

Injection
Storage
Recovery

TOTAL:
Injection:
Reco very

Average
Duration Rate Volume
(days) (mi:) (m~)
5,2 198 1.48
0
3.7 309 1.62
15.3 263 5,79
5,7
12,2 410 7,23
47,2 263 17.85
48.9
41 410 21.69

Percent
Recovered

109

125

122

25,12 (77.1 at)
30.54 (93.7 at)

Based on the results of the Phase II testing work completed in 1992, Centennial decided
to continue with its aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) program, Additional water was injected
at Well A-6 in 1993 and 1994, The injection rate at Well A-6 is currently 400 gpm, Centennial
reports that the hydraulic characteristics of Well A-6 have improved overtime under ASR

IL__
