.,

These regions are:

1.

The Northwest Power Pool which primarily

encompasses utilities in the States of

Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana,

U~ah and western Wyoming;

2.

The Rocky Mountain Power Area which includes

utilities in Colorado and eastern Wyoming;

3.

The New Mexico Power Pool which covers only

the State of New Mexico;

4.

The Pacific Southwest Power Area which

enpompasses utilities in AriZona, Nevada

and California.

The bulk power supply network interconnects

the utiliti~s in all of these areas. The electric power

(megawatt) transfer capability of a transmission system can

only be determined by complex network load flow studies and

system stability analyses and is valid only for the conditions

specified in the study.

Bulk power system electric power

(megawatt) transfer capabilities apply to only one specific

set of system load and generating conditions, and general

statements df capability require many studies.

Determination

of energy tnansfer (gigawatthour) capability adds the

element of time, thereby requiring that average or nominal

capabilities be determined.

This average or nominal capacity

cOntrasts w~th peak power transfer capability where maximums

are determin,ed.
