The study resumed in FY 76. Public meetings were
held in Spearman, Texas, (for Palo Duro Creek) and Chandler, Oklahoma, (for the
Deep Fork River) and a workshop was held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, (for the
Floodway Extension). Preliminary investigations of the Oklahoma City Floodway
Extension Study indicated that improvements would not be economically justified
and studies were discontinued in 1976. However, because of economic development
in the flood plain, a reconnaissance level investigation was made and completed
in November 1983. A letter report on the feasibility of including water supply
storage at Fort Supply was completed and further study was suspended in FY 81
because the need is not justified. However, because of renewed Congressional
interest, work was initiated on the Deep Fork River in FY 1983. A public work-
shop was held at Chandler, OK, on 24 April 1984. The purpose of the workshop
was to obtain local views and to discuss measures to reduce flooding and drain-
age problems along the Deep Fork River. The interim report for Palo Duro Creek
is complete and was forwarded to SWD on 30 March 1984. The District recommended
that the Canadian River Basin, Palo Duro Creek, TX, survey report be approved
and forwarded to the BERH. The Oklahoma City Urban Flood interim report was
finalized in February 1983. The study report of the Division Engineer is sche-
duled for completion in September 1988.

DESCRIPTION: (TD) A survey-scope study of water resource problems and needs,
and development of a comprehensive integrated plan of improvement for the
Canadian River Basin. Special emphasis will be given to Palo Duro Creek (water
supply, flood control, water quality, and recreation); Deep Fork River (flood
control, fish and wildlife, and drainage); twenty identified urban flood pro-
blems in Oklahoma City; inflatable dam on the North Canadian River in Oklahoma
City (recreation); Fort Supply, Oklahoma (water supply); and bank stabilization
at isolated locations on the North and South Canadian Rivers and Little River.

SPONSOR: Palo Duro River Authority; Gruver, Spearman, Sunray, Perry ton, and
Dumas, Texas; Deep Fork Association; East Lincoln County Deep Fork Corporation;
Oklahoma City Planning Commission; Oklahoma City Metropolitan Chamber of
Commerce.

46
