There are 28 reservoirs of over 500 <br /> <br />acre-teet capacity. Four of these were federally constructed and the <br /> <br />ather 2~ ~ere constructed by private interests. <br /> <br />~ present developments for irrigation of lands within the <br /> <br />Dolores River Subbasin have been privately constructed through the <br /> <br />coope~ive efforts of the water users. The principal irrigation <br /> <br />I <br />i <br />: I <br />I <br />, <br />I <br /> <br />systems operating in the basin are the Hughes Ditch, Farmers Water <br /> <br />nevelopment Company, Lone Cone Ditch COillpany, Lilylands Canal and <br /> <br />Reservoir Company, Paradox Valley CaJial and Reservoir Company and the <br /> <br />Colorado Cooperative Company. These six developments serve about 60 <br />.?!(4"" <br />~ercent of the ~~ acres now irrigated in the Dolores River Basin. <br /> <br />In. addition, the Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company and the Summit <br /> <br />Reservoir and Irrigation Company have constructed diversion and <br /> <br />storage facilities within the Dolores River basin for export of water <br /> <br />for irrigaLion use within the San Juan River Subbasin. There are six <br /> <br />irrigation reservoirs of 500 acre-feet capacity or more that have been <br /> <br />privately constructed in the basin. <br />1.'17(7= <br />There are ,<~~:no acres of irrigated cropland in the San Juan <br /> <br />River Subbasin. The development of these lands for irrigation has <br /> <br />practically all been accomplished privately through the cooperative <br /> <br />efforts of water users.
