All <br /> <br />irrigation development has been constructed by the private sector. These <br /> <br />developments all consist of various privately constructed and cperated <br /> <br />canal systems diverting natural flow from the streams. The three largest <br /> <br />canal systems are the Highline, the Miller Creek, and the Powell Park <br /> <br />with capacities of 60 to 100 second-feet. No storage reservoirs of <br /> <br />SOD acre-feet or greater capacity'have been constructed in this drainage. <br />2/9 5o~ <br />In the Upper Colorado River Subbasin there were about ;;$'J.;i.CU acres <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />t <br />. <br />r <br />I <br /> <br />irrigated in 1970 with diversions estimated to be 1,002,000 acre-feet. <br /> <br />,": <br /> <br />About 80 percent of these lands are served by privately constructed <br /> <br />irrigation facilities, the largest of which are ,he Grand Valley Irrigation <br /> <br />! <br />, <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />l <br />t <br />i <br />I <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />Company.. the Redlands Water. and Power Company, and the Farmers Irrigation <br /> <br />Company. Three federally constructed projects.-- the Grand Valley, <br /> <br />Collbran, and Silt projects--serve a total of 59,000 acres or about <br /> <br />20 percent of the total irrigated area. There have been 24 reservoirs <br /> <br />of 500-acre-foot capacity or greater constructed in the Upper Colorado <br /> <br />River Subbasin. Twenty of these were privately 'constructed while <br /> <br />four were constructed by the Federal Government. <br /> <br />In the Gunnison River Subbasin during 1970 there were about <br />/9'/ 9_'1.-:> <br />~~ acres irrieated with diversions estimated at 877,000 acre-feet. <br /> <br />The principal irrigated areas or projects are the Uncompahgre Valley, <br /> <br />Smith Fork, PaQnia, and Fruitgrowers. Irrigation developments were <br /> <br />initially constructed by the private sector.
