i889

.

Ruedi Dam is located on the Fryingpan River on Colorado's western
slope. The reservoir provides replacement storage for out-af-priority
depletion by the Project. Additional storage water is available for
sale to meet irrigation and municipal and industrial water needs in
western Colorado.

The reservoir has a total capacity of 102,300 acre-feet. The spillway
on the right abutment is uncontrolled with an ogee-type crest and has a
total release capability of 5,500 ft3/s.

Storage in Ruedi Reservoir at the beginning of water year 1988
(September 30, 1987) was near capacity at 95,970 acre-feet. On
November 1 the reservoir release was set at 137 ft3/s to accomp1 ish
winter drawdown. This release rate was maintained until mid-February
when it was increased to 180 ft3/s. During May and June, releases were
further adjusted to assure the refilling of the reservoir by early July.
The maximum daily release occurred on June 14 at 307 ft3/s. The maximum
reservoir content reached during the year was 98,320 acre-feet on
June 16. Maximum inflow for the year of 1,196 ft3/s occurred on June 7.
The inflow slowly declined to approximately 170 ft3/s on
. .. September 30,1988.

.

During water year 1988, requests were made for releases of stored water
by three storage contract entities. Total release for the three storage
.entities was approximately 208 acre-feet. West Divide useage was about
7 acre-feet, Basalt water Conservancy District for 132 acre-feet, and
Battlement ~Iesa useage was approximately 68 acre-feet. West Divide
caned for a release from October 1, 1987 through October 21, 1987 and
from July 19, 1988 through September 30, 1988. 8asalt from
July 19, 1988 through September 30, 1988 and Battlement Mesa releases
were made October 1, 1987 through October 23, 1987. The release of
water to cover the replacement needs of the
Ute water Conservancy District normally a replacement requirement of
Green Mountain Reservoir continued to be delivered from Ruedi Reservoir
through October 22, 1987 (Table 1). The release in October totalled
705 acre-feet. The content on September 30, 1988, was 87,800 acre-feet.

Exhibits 1 and 2 show the precipitation and pan evaporation at Meredith.
Table 2 and exhibit 3 show the operations of Ruedi Reservoir during
water year 1988.

B. West S~ Collection System

The Project imports during water year 1988 as measured at
Charles H. Boustead Tunnel (Boustead Tunnel) outlet by the
Colorado Division of Water Resources, reduced by Busk-Ivanhoe imports
through Boustead Tunnel, wet'e 13,450 acre-feet (see table 3). The
April 1 forecas t of ava i 1 ab 1 e imports for May through September was
33,500 acre-feet. However, due to high reservoir storage in the
Arkansas River Basin, all divertible flows were not imported.

.

3
