Water from the
river was not available after July.

A little over one half the water available to Colorado ditches in 1973 was
there (or use in 1974. 553,000 a.!. compared to over one million a.L the
season before. However I there was slightly more water during the five
winter months measured this season. This year 80,660 a.L was gaged at
Pueblo compared with slighlly less than 80,000 a.L the year before. Up-
stream ditches used this ~aler freely and only 12,000 a.f. was stored in
John Martin Reservoir from the Arkansas. The Purgatoire contributed
12,000 a.f. and 6,000 a.c. from accretions made 30,000 a.f. available down-
stream for Colorado and Kansas.

Of the winter flow through Pueblo this year District 114 diverted 52,000
a.f. and District #17153,500 a.f. orwhich some was stored in Lake Meredith
and Holbrook. Ft. Lyon diverted 92,528 a.r. of which 35,175 a.f. went to the
Great Plains through the Kicking Bird. Total diversions by upstream of this
winter water was 206,400 a.f.

The Conservancy District is offering upstream users the opportunity to
store water in the Pueblo Reservoirwhichtheyhave been using in the winter
months. Agreement has not been reached as yet on how many months will be
stored. The committee selected to study the plan of storage have not come
to an,)' agreement, but most see the need for more information on storages
losses and distribution from storage when the riveris low, Studies are being
made by the State of Colorado, the Reclamalion Bureau and some individuals,
Some storage is available below the Pueblo Dam.

Page 3
