A 200 acre plant site was purchased in that <br />area in 1956 and surveys were made to loca~~ a c;,'ersion dan, anc tunnel <br />to bring raw water Irom the Platte River to the site. .~ survey was made <br />in 1957 to locate a water conduit to transport ?o~a:,le water from the treat- <br />ment plant to the southeastern portion oI Den,'er. <br /> <br />In 1962 the Denver Water Department filed an application for the S~rontia <br />Springs Dam and the tunnel from the daln to the t:eatment p1a::t site with <br />"the Bureau qf Land Management. This filing was approved anc. the rights <br />oI way granted in 1967. <br /> <br />Further studies were made in 1963 by Black and Veatch, Consdting Enginee:,., <br />and Irom 1966 to 1972 by the Denver Water Depa:::nent to dete:mine possi:,le <br />alternate's;' sizing of the da-m, tunnel and treatmer:t facilities and costs in"o1\-,,::. <br />Additional property lor the treatment plant was pu:chased during t::e period <br />1970-1974 bringing the total available land to .;90 acres. <br /> <br />In 1973 consultants were employed to prepa:e an environmental assessment <br />for the project and to begin the design for all phases of the work. The en,'iror:- <br />mental assessment was submitted to the responsible gove:nmenta1 agency <br />early in 1974. Their Lna1 draft environmental statement was cOl":-:p1eted in <br />August, 1975 and forwarded for review and action. Design is essentially <br />complete for aU facilities involved in the project, with the exception of an)" <br />adjustments to be made that may be required by stipulations of the permit, <br />when issued. <br /> <br />The plans prepared consist of the following: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />Strontia Spr ings Dam and Reservoir '- <br />Type -- thin arch, double curvature;, concrete <br />Height - 243 ft. above stream channel <br />Crest E1ev. - 6002 !to <br />ThiCkness - base - 31 it., crest - 10 ft. <br />Reservoir Capacity - 7600 acre ft. <br />Surface A rea - 9,6 acres <br />Property Ownership <br />Denver - 67 acres <br />B.
