<br />OOUH7 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The potential Gunnison-Arkansas Project involves the west-to-east <br />traIlllmountain diversion of water from the Colorado River watershed <br />through the Continental Divide to the Arltansas River watershed, all <br />within the State of Colorado. Two distinct areas are involved. the <br />"Eastern Slope project area" which includes the Arkansas River Valley <br />in Colorado where the diverted water would be used, and the "Western <br /> <br />Slope diversion area" in the Colorado River Basin where the trans- <br />mountain water originates. <br />The plan for project development involves !Ill Initial Development <br /> <br />1lhic!l t'.as eDgineering and ecoDOlllic feasibility as a self-sufficient 1mi t <br />independent of further construction. It is adapted to sta!le construc- <br />tion over a period of years. The plan has, however, been designed 80 <br />that it could at some future date be exparded into a much larger project. <br />This report. is concerned onl,y with the ~tial neveloIJllent even thouch <br />elsewhere in the text brief mention is made of the plan for possible <br />expansion. The General1lap at the front of this report shows the area' <br />which may be affected directly or indirectly by the potential project. <br />The color diagram, entitled "Potential Features", located in the back <br />of this volume shows the major facilities planned for the Initial <br />:.Anrelopment and also for the plan of expansion. <br /> <br />I <br />
