flood control benefits and storage capacity.

Reclamation and conservancy district represen-
tatives met with a large number of civic groups
and local government entities concerning the
status of the project and activities scheduled to
ready the project for construction.

Review of dam design and updating of project
costs and benefits are also underway and results
are scheduled to be available early in 1983.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently issued
a biological opinion concerning effect of the
Narrows Unit on three endangered species. The
opinion stated that construction of the project is
not likely to jeopardize the continued existence of
the peregrine falcon and the black footed ferret. In

addition, the.oject would not likely jeopardize
the existence of the bald eagle if several "conserva-
tion measures" are-implemented. An additional
opinion concerning the effect of the Narrows Unit
on the whooping crane is expected in the near
future.

Tentative schedule for future activity concerning
the Narrows Unit is as follows:
- Completion of the feasibility design and cost
estimate of the dam, winter 1982
- Determination of municipal and industrial
water needs, winter 1982
- Negotiation and execution of a cooperative
agreement between Reclamation and the
Colorado Division of Wildlife and Division of
Parks and Outdoor Recreation, 1983 through
spring 1984
