Specific land requirements fo~h and wiIdllfe
and recreation purposes have not yet been deter-
mined. Some portion of these land requirements
would be in addition to the lands acquired around
the top of the conservation pool. Total land
required for the project is now expected to be less
than the 1976 estimate of 42,000 acres.

A review of hydrologic data was conducted earlier
this year. Analyses of updated information based
on longer term record8 resulted in a minor
reduction in the estimated average annual yield of
water from the project. Other contributing factors
to the reduction include revised evaporation rate
estimates and the elimination of the joint-use pool.
The average annual yield is now estimated at
96,400 acre.feet as compared with an earlier
estimate of 102,000 acre.feet.

Other items .Pleted as part of preconstruction
activity include geologic drilling and mapping
along- the damsite to provide additional founda.
tion information for the designers and test pits dug
to determine suitability of material available for
construction of the dam.

Reclamation is consulting with several State and
Federal agencies concerning various aspects of the
Narrows Unit. These include Colorado Division of
Parks and Outdoor Recreation and National Park
Service concerning recreation plans; the Colorado
Division of Wildlife and U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service concerning fish and wildlife issues;
Colorado Division of Highways concerning reloca-
tion of roads within the project area; and the Army
Corps of Engineers concerning flood control
issues. State officials from Nebraska and Colorado

Map shows the revised maximum water surface eleva.
tioD of Narrows Reservoir-a result of a reduction in
flood control storage capacity. Proposed Union Pacific
Railroad relocation is also shown.

.. ,..~'u .is,';.vol.

,.;:'
, ,

$

,
i
~

V'--;J
r
I .
I
(

.
