. .. ., :
1. 'i I~;

Ruedi Reservoir

.

Ruedi Reservoir will be operated in water year 1983 to control spring
runoff, provide maximum storage for use by recreational interests,
enhance fish and wildlife, and meet requirenents for downstream users.
This is an interim plan until a. long term market is developed for all
the available stored water. Short term sales may be made on a year-to-
year basis as the need develops for water available in excess of the
four long term contracts initiated in 1982.

1. Inflow

under IlOst probable conditions, the annual inflow will be 102,600 acre-
feet.

2. Minimum Release

The fish~ bypass requiranents, as described in the Operating Principles,
are 39 ft]js fran Novenber through April and 110 ft3js from May through
October or inflow, whichever is less.

3. Reservoir Operations

.

The planned release fran Ruedi Reservoir for October through April is
approximately 150 ft3js which 1rIOuld draw the reservoir down to an eleva-
tion of 7706.0 feet by April 30, 1983. H=ever, based upon the type of
runoff season indicated by IlOnthly snowpack data, the outfl= fran the
reservoir and the target elevation may be adjusted. To provide maximum
flood protection below the dam, the reservoir will be drawn down by
March 31, 1983. M:mthly estimates of probable inflow will be made
following t.he February 1, through May 1 snow forecasts: the drawdown may
be adjusted accordingly.

West Slope recreation interests requested that the reservoir water level
not be drawn down below elevation 7706.0 feet (53,000 acre-feet), which
is 2.0 feet above the mttom of the Forest Service mat ramp. This
request will be honored until additional long term contracts are developed
for the sale of the remaining storage water. The operating plan used
will assure the reservoir will be filled by the first of JUly, thus
providing recreational benefits during the surrrner IlOnths.

After July 1, the operating plan is to maintain the reservoir as near as
possible to elevation 7764.0 feet (2.0 feet bel= the spillway crest)
until it is necessary to draw the reservoir down for storage of the
spring t'UI1Off. The Colorado Division of Wildlife has requested that the
outflow be naintained at 100 ft3js during Septauber to enhance the down-
stream fishery. These flows can be maintained under normal conditions.
If conditions warrant, the outflow during these IlOnths may be adjusted
to conserve water.

.

17

-
