<br />.: ......~-t <br />4' . , <br /> <br />OPERATION AND MAINTENA~CE <br /> <br />33 <br /> <br />An electrolysis suney was made on Schedules 1, 2 and 3 of the <br />upper feeder from Lake Mathew. to South Fontana during July <br />1947_ Electric current conditions were found to be satisfactory_ <br />On April 4, 1948 the flow to the Palos Verdes feeder was shut off <br />at Eagle Rock control towel' to allow relocation of the Palos Verdes <br />feeder in Orme Avenue where it crosses the new Santa Ana Park- <br />way _ The line was drained and the work of removing and relocating <br />the existing line. together with the necessary concrete encasement, <br />was performed by the Griffith Company. During the shutdown an <br />inspection of the drained portions of the line indicated the pipe <br />to be in very good condition. <br />Fill which had been placed against tunnel bulkheads during the <br />war was removed from the west portal of the Pasadena tunnel. <br />west portal of Monrovia No.3 tunnel and west portal of Monrovia <br />No_ 4 tunnel in January 1948. <br />Studies of potential annexation areas in Los Angeles. San Ber- <br />nardino and Orange counties were made and also of the present <br />and ultimate use of water, safe local supply, and the demand for <br />imported water in the coastal plain_ Investigations were made <br />relative to furnishing Long Beach with an additional service con- <br />nection in the vicinity of its proposed Dominguez HiB reservoir, and <br />relative to the request of the City of Compton for moving the pres- <br />ent meter and making provision for 3 additional connections to the <br />District line. A review, from the District's standpoint. was made of <br />the applications of four separate agencies for membership in the <br />San Diego County Water Authority. A study was made to deter- <br />mine how an emergency delivery could be made to the City of New- <br />port Beach this summer in the event membership in the District <br />becomes assured. <br />Survey work was done in the basin area west of Compton to <br />determine a suitable location for the proposed lateral to deliver <br />Colorado River water to the West Basin Municipal Water District <br />in process of annexation to the Metropolitan Water District. <br /> <br />O),erntio" 'Old mainte"'Olce of Sa" Diego aqued1lct <br /> <br />The San Diego County Water Authority was annexed to the Dis- <br />trict in December 1946. Construction of the San Diego aqueduct <br />between the west portal of San Jacinto tunnel and the San Vicente <br />reservoir of the San Diego city water system is covered in another <br />part of this report.
