<br />._ ....,..,- n <br />,'j {.. <br /> <br />28 <br /> <br />METROPOLITAN WATER DISTRICT <br /> <br />received one-half of a flow of 200 cubic feet per second. and from <br />April 6 through June 12, 1948 about three-quarters of a flow of <br />400 cubic feet pel' second. On June 12, 1948 the available storage <br />in Lake Mathews reached the highest point since completion of the ~ <br />reservoir at 101.314 acre feet. Pumping was reduced on that date <br />to 200 cubic feet per second. about half of which continued into <br />Lake Mathews until the end of the fiscal year. The available storage <br />on June 30. 1948 was 100.121 acre feet. <br /> <br />P-ipe l-ines and reservoirs <br />The upper feeder consisting of precast concrete pipe, steel <br />pipe, tunnels. and cast-in-place concrete canyon crossings extends <br />60.8 miles from Lake Mathews to the Eagle Rock control tower <br />on the westerly buumlary of the City of Pasadena. The capacity <br />of the upper feeder is 750 cubic feet per second to the San Dimas <br />turnuut and 510 cubic feet per second from that puint to Eagle <br />Rock Near La Verne in Los Angeles County the flow of the upper <br />feeder is diverted at a turnout structure into the water softening <br />and filtration plant. softened and filtered. and returned to the upper <br />feeder for distribution to District areas. The City of Pasadena is <br />supplied directly from the Pasadena tunnel of the upper feeder <br />through a riser pipe at Mountain Street and Manzanita A venue_ <br />This riser is connected to a large city main which delivers water <br />to near-by Sunset reservoir. A second Pasadena outlet is provided <br />near the easterly cit~' boundary at Sierra Madre Villa A venue. <br />There are at present three main branches extending from the <br />upper feeder southerly and westerly into the metropolitan area. <br />with laterals as required to carry water to the member cities. The <br />Orang" County branch takes oW from th" upper feeder at the <br />softening plant turnout structure and runs in a southerly direction <br />40_3 miles to connect with the existing Laguna Beach main supply <br />line near Corona Del Mar. Direct cOlinections are made from the <br />Orange County line to the city systems of Brea, a constituent of <br />Coastal Municipal Water District, Fullerton. Anaheim. and Santa <br />Ana at points designated by these cities. Two reservoirs on this <br />line. the Orange County and Corona Del Mar, provide storage and <br />flow regulation_ <br />The Palos Verdes branch runs southerly and westerly from the <br />Eagl" Rock tower 31.0 miles to the Palos Verdes reservoir near the <br />Los Angeies Harbor-Long Beach area. Ten connections. including <br />a short lateral to Ascot reservoir. have thus far been made from <br />this line to the Los Angeles city water system. and laterals were <br />
