Means were provided for
measuring and keeping records of water used for domestic and
other purposes at the pumping plant camps, and water diverted
frum the pumping mains for cooling transformers and motors.
The yield of the water well at Camino fell off to such an extent
that a well contractor was engaged to reperforate the casing and
sand pump the well. The yield was only slightly improved and the
present water supply is barely adequate for the camp.
The average force required to operate the pumping system, in-
cluding the transmission and telephone lines and the patrol roads,
was 77 as against 75 for the preceding fiscal year. The two addi-
tional men are engineering aides, recent electrical engineering grad-
uates. who assist the test engineer in maintenance and adjustment
of the electrical control apparatus in the pumping plants.
The mcsshall, dormitory, and guest house at Gene camp were
operated continuously. The messhall at Iron Mountain camp was
operated for a short period to accommodate men working on swim-
ming pool construction and a survey party from the U. S.
