The total <br />water production of the District averaged 846_92 cubic feet per <br />second, or 547,380,000 gallons per day, of which the District <br />supplied 155.8 c.f.s-. or 18.4 per cent, from the Colorado River. <br /> <br />Construction <br />On January 16. 1948 bids were opened under Specifications <br />No. 371 for construction of expansion No.1 of the softening and <br />filtration plant at La Verne_ The low bid of L. E. Dixon Company, <br />in the amount of $2,592,000 for the contract items. was accepted by <br />the Board of Directors of the District and a contract awarded on <br />January 23. The contractor began operations on February 11 and <br />at the end of the fiscal year had completed about 19 per cent of <br />the work. <br />Construction of the San Diego aqueduct by contractors of the <br />United States Navy was practically completed in 1947_ <br />After the District assumed operation of the northerly half of the <br />San Diego aqueduct, District forces constructed an operator's <br />cottage at the San Jacinto reservoir and a branch telephone line to <br />
