BENEFITS.- Caddoa reservoir will oontrol all floods of

reoord within bank-full oapacity (about 10,000 c.r.s.) downstream from the

dam. For this purpose II. storage capaoity of 270,000 aore-feet, between

"

Elevations 3851 and 3870, will be reserved, out of a total oapacity at

maximum pool of 655,000 aore-feet. In addition the reservoir, by means

of its oonservation pool, of capaoity 385,000 acre-feet, vdll regulate

and conserve the stream flows for irrigation purposes.

__C ~-- ~--- 5.=1"[ATERSHEDI-=cThecwatEirBned~of~-t:li:e~Jl,rKeiisas RiJ:.er: -fS;-sin-above- .
- - - - ----------- - ------.

~_- ~C~~~~~~~~~'i~~~o~~t 2b6-:~~;s-~?i~~~~~h~-i;t~~~~::ge:w~dtP-of~-~7~ ~.~O-~
;;;;;==~ - -- - -a~~t~92:,m:t:les ~,;:and:.:e.n~area;(;f~i8~910' square:.m1es:;-of Whi(,~h:--5 ,800-_square
-- - ------------ -- --" - -

miles are rugged mountains. and the balanoe is foot-hills and plains.

Principal tributary is the Purgatoire River, which enters just upstream

from the upper end 01' Caddo a Reservoir. and whioh drains' an area of 3.390

square miles. Elevations range from over 12,000 feet in the headwaters to

about 3,800 feet in the projeot vioini ty. Slopes vary from 110 feet per

mile in the upper reaohes to about 7.2 feet per mile in the reservoir basin.

,:

6. PRECIPITATION.- Mean annual preoipi tation on the watershed

above the damsite varies from about 12 inohes at Caddoa to 25 inohes or more

on the mountain crests, with an average of approximately 16 inches over

the entire watershed. l.luoh of the pre ci pi tati on on the higher mountains

is in the farm of snow. Stonns of intense oharaoter, looally known as

"olOUdbursts", periodioally visit the foothills and plains areas, and these,

-- - --
- --- -
------
_u____u_ rapid rise. high peak disoharge, and short duration.

oambined with steep gradients, result in flood flows oharact~,::ized_bz_

006-
