Ductile iron pipe

.

Only. approved connectors and sealers will be used to connect, seal,
and protect the different types of materials used for conduit and
facilities. An example of the above is the use of coal tar enamel,
or epoxy as a protective coating for steel components.

C. Operations

The Fountain Valley Conduit will convey water from the outlet works
of Pueblo Dam to the communities of Colorado Springs, Widefield,
Fountain, Security, and Stratmoor Hills, all of which are located
in the Colorado Springs metropolitan area. The Bureau of Reclamation
will operate Pueblo Dam and deliver water into the conduit. The
conduit works will be operated and maintained by the Southeastern
Colorado Water Conservancy District under provisions of a contract
to be executed with the United States. The District will negotiate
appropriate contracts with the benefiting entities or their agent.
Present plans provide for the formation of a Fountain Valley Authority
which would be a nonprofit corporation formed by the beneficiaries
of the Fountain Valley Conduit. The Authority would construct,
operate, and maintain the purification plant which would treat water
conveyed by the conduit. It would also be responsible for operation,
maintenance, and replacement of the conduit.

.

The control center for the conduit works will be located at the
purification plant to be constructed by the Fountain Valley Authority.
Operation of the conduit works will be automated to allow complete
operation and control of the conduit works from the control center.

The system will function on a demand basis 12 months of the year.

D. Interrelationships With Other Water Supplies and Facilities

The Fryingpan-Arkansas water to be conveyed by the Fountain Valley
Conduit will provide a supplemental water supply to the communities
of Colorado Springs, Widefield, Fountain, Security and Stratmoor
Hills.

1. Colorado Springs

The city of Colorado Springs, Department of Public Utilities,
provides water to users within the corporate limits, Air Force
Academy, Fort Carson, Peterson Field Air Force Base and

.

II-O
