<br />Fish and Wildlife <br /> <br /> <br />eOIO( ado elk <br /> <br />Two national fish hatcheries are performing <br />Important roles in the Joint State-Federal <br />approach 10 meeting fish stocking require- <br />ments at CRSP reservoirs. <br />Jones Hole National Fish Hatchery: The <br />hatchery is located in a deep canyon on <br />Jones Hole Creek near Dinosaur National <br />Monument in northeastern Utah, In 1983, <br />the hatchery produced 174.130 pounds of <br />fish. <br />Hotchkiss National Fish Hatchery: The <br />Hatchery is located on the north fork of the <br />Gunnison River near Hotchkiss, CO Its <br />output of 110,506 pounds of fish went prrn. <br />clpally for stocking requirements of Blue <br />Mesa, Crawford, Lemon, and Silverjack <br />Reservoirs in Colorado and Navajo Reser- <br />voir in Colorado and New Mexico. One <br />national wildlife refuge and three waterfowl <br />areas under State administration are now <br />being developed. <br />Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge: <br />The retuge lies along the Green River below <br />Fontenelle Dam, WY, and since 1966, has <br />been administered by Ihe Fish and Wildlite <br />Service. Development of refuge lands is <br />continuing during the year <br /> <br />,.. <br />':~- <br /> <br />Brown's Park Waterfowl Management <br />Area: The area, under administration of the <br />Utah DIVision of Wildlife Resources, is <br />located below Flaming Gorge Reservoir <br />on the Green River near the Utah-Colorado <br />State iine. The overall managem8nt area <br />is attracting numerous resident and migra- <br />tory game bird populations and IS increas- <br />Ing in oublic popularity as a fishing, hunting, <br />and bird,watchlng area. <br />Ogden Bay Waterfowl Management Area: <br />This area IS between the eastern shore of <br />the Great Salt l.ake and Williard Bay, This <br />area consists of 3,104 acres of sloughs <br />and fields planted with grains and weed <br />seed for waterfowl food and cover. Tradi- <br />tionally bird use of the area is heavy. With <br />the rising waters of the Great Salt Lake, <br />this and other areas around the lake be- <br />comes more critical. <br /> <br />* <br /> <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />COlorado hurnrnlnnbird in her nest <br /> <br />Desert Lake Waterfowl Management <br />Area: The area comprises 2,480 acres of <br />acquired and public domain land in eastern <br />Utah near Huntington North Reservoir. <br />Administered by Utah DiviSion of Wildlife <br />Resources since January 1968, the area's <br />contribution to waterfowl resources man- <br />agement was significantly increased by <br />rehabilitation to the historic Desert Lake <br />Dike and completion of five additional diked <br />areas below the existing impoundment. <br /> <br />A number of measures have been initiated <br />to mitigate fishery and big game losses <br />caused by the construction of CRSP fea- <br />tures. <br /> <br />23 <br />
