,

001754

.

.

~

feasibility report will be delayed until the end of FY 1970.

Feasibility investigations consisting of plan formulation
studies, including power generation at Taylor Park Reservior, and
collection of water supply data arc in progress on the Upper
Gunnison Project near Gunnison. The proposed feasibility report is
scheduled for completion in FY 1971.

Completion of the feasibility report on the Yellow Jacket
Project near Meeker, is awaiting receipt of reports from the Bureau
of Outdoor Recreation, the Federal Bureau of Sport Fishery and wild-
life, and the Bureau of Land Management. A meeting was held in the
Bureau of Reclamation's Regional Office in Salt Lake City on April 9,
1968 with representatives from the Grand Junction Projects Office,
the Regional Office, the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, and the
Federal Bureau of Sport Fishery and Wildlife to discuss problems
concerning their reports.

The Bureau of Reclamation is conducting a two-year recon-
naissance salinity control investigation of the Upper Colorado River
Basin in cooperation with the Federal Water Pollution Control Admin-
istration. A report will be published June 1969. The investigation
will identify salinity sources and various methods of controlling
or reducing the salinity concentration in the Colorado River system,
estimate cost of the controls, and define the legal and local prob-
lems connected with the control methods. Thirty-five point sources
(springs, abandoned flowing wells, and drains) of salinity contribu-
tion have been identified for further investigation. Seven areas
along streams have also been identified as being heavy contributors
of salinity concentration.

Advance Planninq

On the Savery-Pot Hook Project near Craig, substantial
progress has been made on the definite plan report investigations.
Detailed land classification and drainage surveys have been completed
and the slection of land acreages suitable for service by the project
has been made to replace lands in the Fourmile and Timberlake areas
that were determined to be nonirrigable. Field surveys for the proj-
ect features are essentially complete except for some additional
surveys for the first section of the proposed Dolan Mesa Canal.
These field surveys are now in progress. The geological investigations
for the two dams are essentially complete and geological surveys are
underway on the new locations for the proposed canal lines. These
surveys will be quite extensive because of the unusually sandy

-2-
