I'
1-:-

. ,

.

.

001753

PACIFIC SOUTHWEST INTER-AGENCY COMMITTEE
Quarterly Report for Colorado

68-2 Meeting

Construction

On May 19, 1968, water impounded behind Morrow Point Dam,
the second dam of the Curecanti Unit near Gunnison, re~ched a depth
of 231 feet. About 900 cubic feet per second are being released
through the dam outlet works for downstream use. The turbines,
generators and much of the other electrical equipment for the power-
plant are being fabricated or are completed. Construction of Crystal
Dam and Powerplant just downstream from Morrow Point will be under-
taken when funds become available.

Construction has been resumed on the Silver Jack Reservoir
Dam of the Bostwick Park Project near Montrose. Embankment operations
should be completed in 1969. Present fund limitations may make it
necessary to delay initiation of work on the Project lateral system.

Feasibilitv Investiqations

Review comments on the June 1967 proposed feasibility
report, Battlement Mesa Project, near Collbran have been received
from most state and federal agencies. The final report will now be
prepared and submitted to Washington for further action.

Feasibility designs and estimates have been completed for
Sharrard Park and Kobe Pumping Plants, Roan Creek Diversion Dam,
and Mt. Logan Dam for the Bluestone Project near Grand Junction.
Plan formulation studies are nearly complete for the Una Reservoir
portion of the report. Data for this feature will be presented in
reconnaissance detail with the recommendation that initial construc-
tion on this feature be delayed until oil shale or related industries
dictate the need. Una Dam, Reservoir and Powerplant would provide
river control, power development, fishery and recreation, water
pollution control, and municipal and industrial water development.
Financial and economic analysis studies have been initiated. Work
by the cooperating agencies is behind schedule, but it is anticipated
the date of June 1968 for the field draft of the proposed feasibility
report can be met.

On the Grand Mesa Project near Delta plan formulation
studies, water supply studies, geological investigations, collection,
of agricultural economy data, and the preparation of design data are
in progress. It is now anticipated that completion of the proposed
