<br />Location.--Water-stage recorder. 1at 37004'4211, long 105045'22". in sec. 22, T. 33 N.,
<br />R. 11 E., on right bank just downstream from highway bridge, 6 miles north of Colorado-
<br />New Mexico State line. 10 miles east of Lobatos, and 14 miles east of Antonito. Datum
<br />of gage is 7,427.63 ft above mean sea level, datum of 1929.
<br />Drainage area..-7,700 sq mi. approximately (includes 2,940 sq mi in closed basin in San Luis
<br />Valley).
<br />Average discharge.--74 years (1900-73). 595 cfs (431.100 acre-ft per year).
<br />Extremes.uI899-1973: Maximum discharge observed, 13,200 cfs June 8, 1905, (gage height,
<br />9.1 ft). from rating curve extended above 8,000 cfs; no flow at times in 1950-51, 1956.
<br />Remarks.--Records good except those for winter months, which are fair. Natural flow of
<br />streams affected by transmountain diversions, storage reservoirs, ground-water withdrawals
<br />and diversions for irrigation. and return flow from irrigated areas.
