<br />r-- <br />cry <br />r-- <br /> <br />CHAPTER II <br /> <br />GENERAL APPROACH TO THE WORK <br /> <br />!..;J <br /> <br />o <br />o <br /> <br />Study Organization <br /> <br />ftF;{i <br /> <br />The study will be conducted under the direction of the Bureau of Reclama- <br />tion and will be aided by the Grand Valley Salinity Coordinating Committee. <br />The existing Grand Valley Salinity Coordinating Committee provided input and <br />guidance into the planning and construction of the Stage One area, and it will <br />serve in an advisory capacity for Stage Two planning. <br /> <br />',{ As part of planning for Stage Two, the Fish and Wildlife Service will be <br />funded for its required ~~......wt- under the Fish and Wildlife Coordination <br />Act. .~- <br /> <br />Lead agency <br /> <br />The Bureau of Reclamation will continue as lead agency as it.did during <br />Stage One planning and construction and will be accountable to the Secretary of <br />the Interior for accomplishing the goals and intent of legislative directives. <br />All data collection will be performed according to Bureau standards and require- <br />ments. <br /> <br />The Bureau will collect hydrologic, geologic, engineE!ring, and environ- <br />mE!ntal data for designing the proposed unit features, preparE! designs and <br />estimates of the features, administer the funds allotted to the study, and <br />schedule various associated activities. Upon completion of the study, the <br />Bureau will prepare the final reports and environmental documents resulting <br />from the invE!stigation. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Grand Valley Salinity Coordinating Committee <br /> <br />The Grand Valley Salinity Coordinating Committee was established when fea- <br />sibility studies on the Grand Valley Unit first began and meets on a regular <br />basis. As a whole the committee's purpose is to coordinate salinity studies in <br />the Grand Valley and to disseminate information about the salinity control meas- <br />ures to the public. The committee includes representatives of the Bureau as well <br />as the following agencies: U.S. Department of Agriculture--Soil Conservation <br />Service, Agricultural Research Service, and the Agricultural Stabilization and <br />Conservation Service; the U.S. Geological Survey; Fish and Wildlife Service; <br />U.S, Environmental Protection Agency; Upper Colorado River Commission; Colorado <br />Water Conservation Board; Colorado Division of Wildlife; Colorado State Univer- <br />sity Extension, Tri-River Area; Colorado State University, Department of Agri- <br />culture and Chemical Engineering; Grand Valley Water Users Association; Grand <br />Valley Irrigation Company; Grand Junction Drainage District; Redlands Water and <br />Power Company; Mesa Soil Conservation District; Farmers HOlne Administration; <br />City-County Development Department; and Club 20. Representatives of these agen- <br />cies are responsible for informing their respective organizations of the activ- <br />ities, functions and accomplishments of the coordinating committee. <br /> <br />11 <br />
