The market value of agricultural <br />products produced on irrigated land in 1974 was estimated at $716.000 in <br />Clark County or $90 per acre. About one-half of the irrigated land in the <br />county is in the study area. The major crops in descending order of <br />abundance. if not importance. are alfalfa. barley. pasture. and sudan cut <br />for forage. <br /> <br />Employment - Employment in the area is diverse and most of the <br />employed labor works within the area. About two percent commute to jobs <br />outside the area (primarlly Las Vegas). <br /> <br />The labor force of the area comprises approximately 67 percent of <br />the population over 16 years of age. About 94 percent is civilian labor <br />and about 95 percent of the labor force is employed. Fanning is not a <br />major source of employment in the area. The majority of the labor force <br />is in the service. craftsman. managerial and professional categories. <br /> <br />Changes in population density. social and economic conditions will <br />occur whether or not the salinity control measures are implemented. <br /> <br />Historic and Archeo10gic - No properties presently listed on or <br />pending nomination to the National Register of Historic Places are located <br />in the Moapa Valley study area. The Muddy River. California Wash. and <br />Mormon Mesa areas are however. known to be some of the richest archeological <br />regions in the state. The area was settled very early and several remnants <br />of that history remains. The historic trails crossing the study area are <br />the Yount-Pattie (1826) and Joseph Walker (1833). The Archeological <br />Research Center. University of Nevada. Las Vegas. and the Southern Nevada <br />Historical Society maintain information on what is presently known of the <br />area. <br /> <br />23 <br /> <br />OQZ";U3 <br /> <br />. <br />
