<br />Vegetation - V~~~tation on irrigated agricultural land consists <br />primarily of legumes, grasses and small grains. The estimated impact <br />area is within the confines of the valley bottom. Range conditions <br />1IT]prOVe slowly in this arid climate. Future conditions of the range- <br />land resources would be unaffected by any of the proposed alternatives, <br />and were not studied. <br /> <br />Vegetation on wildlife land that has been classified as wetland <br />according to Wetlands of the U.S. Circular 39 are: saltcedar (TamarUr <br />pentandra), big saltbush (Atrip~e~ ~entiformi8), creosotebush (Larrea <br />divaricata), mesquite (Pro8opi8 ju~ifZora), fourwing saltbush (AtripZex <br />Cane8CBn8), arrowweed pluchea (PZuchea 8ericea), black greasewood Sarco- <br />batu8 vermicu~atU8), iodinebush AZ~enroZfea occidentaZi8), alkali sacaton <br />(sporobo~us airoides), inland saltgrass (Di8tich~is stricta), and other <br />annual and perennial forbs and grasses. Lacustrine land, 406 acres, <br />includes types I, IV, V and XI wetlands; palustrine land, 5,070 acres, <br />includes types II and IX wetlands; and riverine land, 1,559 acres consists <br />of type X wetland. Habitat system definition is 1979, U. S. Fish and Wild- <br />life Service. <br /> <br />Recreation Resources <br /> <br />Recreation opportunities vary from hunting, fishing, photography, <br />camping, hiking, and bird watching to the personal enjoyment of the <br />aesthetics and natural beauty of the desert environment. Alternatives or <br />levels of management under consideration for salinity control will not <br />have any long lasting adverse effects on the recreational aspects of the <br />area. Overall improvement will be realized within a few years. <br /> <br />Social and Economic Characteristics <br /> <br />Population - The population (1970 census) of the subevaluation unit <br />was about 2,525 and was projected to reach about 6,000 within ten years. <br />Centers of population growth and expansion in the valley are the communities <br />of Overton, Logandale, Glendale and Moapa. <br /> <br />Cultural, Social and Economic Factors - The age distribution for the <br />area is approximately as follows: <br /> <br />Under 5 years <br />5 - 19 years <br />20 - 44 years <br />45 - 64 years <br />65 years and over <br /> <br />10 percent <br />27 percent <br />31 percent <br />21 percent <br />11 percent <br /> <br />The median school completion is 12.3 years.
