on figure 8. Fortunately, a large part of the stream-gaging program during
past years has been devoted to the definition of the flow of principal
streams. The goal of 25 years has already been achieved at seven sites,
and record length is approaching 25 years at several other sites. New sta-
tions or reactivation of discontinued stations are proposed at nine loca-
tions. This information is also shown in table 3.
Figure 8.--Proposed network of gaging stations for unregulated
principal streams.

Regulated streams

Methods are still being developed for determining flow characte~istics
of regulated streams. About 2,500 mi les or streams in Kansas is subject to
major regulation or diversion. The streams that are affected by regulation
and the degrees of the effects are shown in table 3.

Dete~mination of streamflow characteristics for regulated streams will
involve adjustIng the reco~ded flows for effects of regulation, which will
require ~ecords of regulated flow and diversions, records of inflow to
reservoirs, knowledge of methods of operation of rese~voirs, flow-routing
cha~acteristics of the channels, and records of inflow below reservoirs.
Pending development of appl icable systems-app~oach methods. it Is assumed
